Research organisations often request participants to be involved in dementia related research. The research projects vary from answering a questionnaire to participant involvement. Much of this research is aimed at the improvement of wellbeing of both the person living with dementia and their carer.

It is common that researchers struggle to get participants, we believe it is important to support these projects as the findings will inform those that are able to improve the outcomes for someone living with dementia and those caring for them.

The emotional wellbeing of informal care partners of people living with dementia

We know that caring for someone living with dementia can be physically demanding and emotionally challenging. Many informal care partners experience difficult emotions. Some informal care partners can be very self-critical and worry that they are not doing a good enough job or that they are making mistakes. Other informal care partners are kinder and more understanding toward themselves when things are hard or go wrong.

In this research project we will look at how being self-critical and self-compassionate may relate to emotional wellbeing in informal care partners of people living with dementia. We hope the findings will help inform future supports for informal care partners.
